‘Light: Works from the Tate Collection’ is a special exhibition newly organised by Tate, a prominent institution in the United Kingdom, well known for its wide collection of international modern and contemporary art. This exhibition is an exploration of ‘light’ as a subject and medium and is held at the Buk-Seoul Museum of Art after its first run in Shanghai as the opening exhibition of the Museum of Art Pudong.
Spanning more than two hundred years from the 18th century to contemporary art, the exhibition features 110 works by 43 artists including William Blake, J. M. W. Turner, Claude Monet, Wassily Kandinsky, Nam June Paik, Yayoi Kusama, Olafur Eliasson, and James Turrell, who have explored the subject of light using diverse media. This exhibition provides an opportunity to experience the diverse spectra of light, from spiritual and sublime light, light as the door to modern physics, to the birth of Impressionism, covering the fields of not only art history, but also the history of civilization, humanity, and science.
