The 13th Gwangju Biennale

2021.04.01-05.09
Gwangju Biennale Exhibition Hall etc.
Launched in 1995, Gwangju Biennale held its 13th edition titled, Minds Rising, Spirits Tuning. The exhibition went beyond the dichotomy of rationality and reason that has sustained the Western society and modernism, and presented directions for the global living system and artistic practice for communal survival in the non-western world.
Directed by Defne Ayas and Natasha Ginwala, it encompasses an exhibition with 40 new commissions and 450 works by 69 artist/teams from 40 countries, across four venues, including the Gwangju Biennale Exhibition Hall, Gwangju National Museum, Horanggasy Artpolygon, and Gwang ju Theater. It features a dynamic program encompassing an exhibition, a performance program, an online publishing platform and publications, and a series of public forums bringing together artists, theoretical scientists, and systems thinkers.
