Pompeii: Culture of the Ancient Roman City
'Pompeii: Culture of the Ancient Roman City' exhibited around 300 relics from Pompeii to introduce diverse aspects of the city of Roman Empire around the time Mount Vesuvius erupted on August 24, AD 79. This ancient city has been excavated since the 18th century, registered as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 1997, and has gained global attention.
In this exhibition, the displayed artifacts evoked the tragic moment when Mount Vesuvius erupted, which vividly encapsulated the daily lives of Pompeii’s citizens. In particular, well preserved fresco paintings, various sculptures, accessories and the casts of dead people and animals showed both their luxurious lives and the very last moment of the disaster that engulfed the people of Pompeii.
